Spring Bay Who's Who
Public Profile

Probably the most scary thing that can happen to your MAC or Windows computer is if it fails to turn on. You press the power button and nothing! No beeps, no clicks, no fan. The light on the monitor is on, but your computer is completely dead.
First of all, take a deep breath and don't panic! If there's one thing we've learned, panic doesn't help! At this stage all we know is that there is no power. Your documents, photos and music are probably safe, just not accessible at the moment. This computer problem shows that one of the hardware components have failed. Faulty Batteries, RAM sticks, hard drives, buttons, power supply, broken screen can all be causes of this issue. We'll help figure out which one it is.

Distinguished and Famous people from Spring Bay
🍇 Diego Bernacchi
Diego Bernacchi arrived in Tasmania in 1884 with an ambitious vision for Maria Island. He moved his family into the former convict settlement at Darlington and sought to establish silk production, vineyards and numerous other enterprises. A company followed, and the settlement was briefly renamed San Diego. Visitors were entertained with lanterns, fireworks and champagne, but enthusiasm could not permanently overcome financial difficulties: the company was liquidated in 1892. Bernacchi also lived at Louisville and served as a Spring Bay councillor from 1889 to 1892. The island's surviving industrial traces recall both his ambitions and the difficulty of making them pay.
📜 William Smith O’Brien
Irish political leader William Smith O'Brien was held at Darlington on Maria Island after transportation in 1849. Convicted of high treason following the 1848 uprising, he had his death sentence commuted to transportation for life. On the island he was isolated in a small cottage, with tightly restricted contact. A failed boat escape in 1850 was followed by transfer to Port Arthur. His prison journal, preserved by the National Library of Ireland, documents the journey and part of his residence. The Spring Bay connection is therefore imprisonment rather than voluntary settlement, linking a quiet island building with the much wider history of Irish politics and exile.
